My love for painting started in 1993. My husband was working lots of night shifts leaving me with free time in the evenings, and I was looking for something to fill the void. One day I noticed an advertisement for Decorative Painting classes. As I worked on computers all day, I needed a creative outlet and decorative painting seemed to be the ideal choice. That was the beginning.
My brain couldn't get enough information, so I signed up for every decorative painting class in my area. Then I found Terrie Cordray, an international and published artist. She noticed my love for painting and took me under her wings. My teaching career started in her studio. It was such a joy to see the eyes of the student's light up after they accomplished a painting and see the difference painting made to their lives.
Since my love for information and know-how is never ending, I took many seminars from accomplished artists such as Michele Walton, Bobbie Takashima, Ronnie Bringle, Deanne Fortnam and David Jansen, just to name a few. Being able to study with David was another highlight in my career. Understanding color theory and the difference it made in my paintings was unbelievable. I have continued studying with David and have now accomplished his technique and understanding of traditional styles. I strive to give the same knowledge to my students.
Because of my overwhelming love of the art, I have given up computer programming and now devote my time between my husband of 24 years (who supports me and gives me the encouragement that I need to continue in this endeavor), my granddaughter, Lexi (who contributes her creative abilities to my success) and my classroom.
I teach weekly classes in my studio in Charleston, WV, and design and publish packets in my spare time. Along with my family, designing, painting and teaching have now become a full-time job for me and I am so happy to be doing something that I love and that has truly enriched my life.
